MOUNTAIN BIKING

Mountain BikingAngel Fire Resort
Sweet drops. Wicked lava fields. Easy cruisers. Awesome jumps. Is it any wonder Angel Fire Resort was asked to host the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup? Our challenging and virtually endless terrain has put us on the map as one of the country’s (okay, world’s) premier mountain biking destinations.

That doesn't mean you have to be hard-core to ride here. We’ve got trails that work for any level of rider. Whether you’re just starting out or an old hand at catching air and bagging peaks.

Taos
For the adventurous, the biking trails in and around Taos present a range of challenges for the off-road and mountain biker.  Close to town, the Divisadero Loop Trail will afford some of the most spectacular views from the eastern edge of the Taos Valley, while the Williams Lake Trail will take you deep into the Sangre de Cristos to the foot of Wheeler Peak.  Another favorite is the West Rim Trail, which begins at the Visitor Area on the western side of the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge.  These are just a few of the many options in the area, and for further information contact the U.S. Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management or log on to www.trails.com.

Mountain BikingRed River
Whether you're an on- or off-road mountain biker, Red River has many trails to choose from. Travel along old logging roads, the old pass or any number of National Forest trails. You'll find single tracks, aspen groves and wildflower meadows. Old mining roads take you on a tour through history with abandoned mines and cabins along the way.

Experience the excitement of downhill without the snow. Ride the chair lift at Red River Ski Area and mountain bike down the same trails. Red River also hosts a variety of races and mountain bike activities like the Enchanted Circle Century Tour and the Top of the World Mountain Bike Race.

Experience the Enchanted Circle Century Bike Tour - The Century Tour is a 100 mile ride around the Enchanted Circle, including a short trip through Angel Fire to Black Lake and back.  The race takes place the 2nd Saturday in September.

Taos Ski Valley
Come ride your mountain bike at Taos Ski Valley's only approved summer recreational area, and some of the best alpine mountain biking anywhere, right here in northern New Mexico. Explore approximately 25 miles of single-track trails and old grass covered two-track roads through beautiful stands of evergreen forest, expansive groves of aspen, and grassy meadows with spectacular views, all available by private land access permit. The terrain is best suited for the intermediate and higher level rider. You can climb to the highest point on the property of 12,163 ft., atop Frazer Mountain, or enjoy numerous other overlooks, beautiful wildflowers, changing colors and herds of Bighorn Sheep, Mule Deer and Rocky Mountain Elk. Daily, weekly, or seasonal permits for this fee-based recreational area are for sale at area businesses and at the Taos Ski Valley Chamber of Commerce. Bicycle rentals are available in Taos Ski Valley and in Taos.
